"MUSIC GAVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY TO FEED MY REVOLUTIONARY SELF."
~THANDISWA MAZWAI

Thandiswa is one of the most influential musicians on the South African music scene. Her music travels through the village into the ghetto and raises the roof in the city, effortlessly melding the traditional with the modern.

The collage that flows through her site hints at the tales told in her songs - stories of Blackness and Africaness, social ills and ever-present violence, and freedom and hope.

This project gave me a chance to study South Africa: its culture, ancient rites, political struggles, popular foods and dances. From Steve Biko to the tokoloshe, I had such an exciting mix of raw material to inspire my website artwork.

I worked with Html5 developer, Shailendra More to add a bit of dynamism to the site with the subtle motion that occurs as you scroll horizontally.

Take a look at thandiswa.com and give Thandiswa a listen (my favourite track: Thongo Lam from Ibokwe). Enjoy!
